WILLIAM
BARTEE
DB | (6-1 1/8, 192, 4.46) | Oklahoma
by Pro Football Weekly
Drafted by: Kansas City, Pick 23, Round 2 , Overall 54
Notes: Butler
County Community College (Kan.) transfer. Was slowed by injuries in
1998 and only played in six games. Began the '99 season at free safety,
then came into his own after moving to cornerback. Finished the season
with 51 tackles and an interception. Was so impressive that he was
invited to the Senior Bowl.
Positives: Has
excellent size for a cornerback and good athletic ability. Is effective
in press coverage. Made great strides in '99 after moving to cornerback,
where he looked much more natural and instinctive. Had an outstanding
Combine workout.
Negatives: Needs
a lot of work on techniques; backed-off, man-on-man coverage; zone
coverage; and reading offenses. Seemed to lack some awareness and
decisiveness when he played at safety and was out of position too
often. May not hit and tackle well enough to be a solid safety.
Does not have great lateral movement skills for a cornerback.
Summary: Looked
as though he had a future at cornerback after the strides he made
at the end of his senior year and at the Senior Bowl. But he must
stay focused, learn skills and eliminate mental mistakes.
