Mike Cloud
RB | (5-10 1/2, 202, 4.55) | Boston College
Drafted by: Kansas City, Pick 23, Round 2 , Overall 54
by Pro Football Weekly

Notes: Rhode Island High School Football Player of the Year in 1993. Came to Boston College in '94 and redshirted. Made his mark in '95, when he carried 102 times for 626 yards and two touchdowns and caught eight passes for 44 yards. Carried 68-359-1 and caught 6-57 and one touchdown in '96. Split time with Omari Walker in '97, carrying 136-886-8 and catching 20-225-1. Graduated in May but returned to school. While pursuing a second degree, Cloud went from a player who would have been an undrafted free agent in '98 to a legitimate prospect by having a superproductive senior season and playing well in the Senior Bowl. Carried 308-1,726-14 and caught 24-198 during the season before rushing for over 100 yards in the Senior Bowl. Finished third in the nation in rushing, winning All-Big East honors and some All-America honors.

Positives: Fine intangibles. Improved every year and had a super senior season and excellent Senior Bowl. Tough and nifty. Exceptional vision. Has a good feel for the cut-back lanes. Feisty runner who will not go down without a fight. Can make the first tackler miss. Catches the ball nicely. Can catch the ball without facing the quarterback and with his arms away from his body. Looks like a natural receiver. Good pass blocker who does a nice job vs. the blitz. Generally knows who, how and when to block.

Negatives: Just average size and speed. Looks almost spindly and bowlegged at times. Runs more upright than scouts would like. Lacks great moves and shake-and-bake. Is no Barry Sanders or Joe Washington.

Summary: A good all-around football player who should make a team and contribute. In terms of what he can do, Cloud can be described as a poor man's Marcus Allen. But he is not as big, versatile or gifted as Allen was. Cloud is the type of player most coaches would like to have on their team, but, in terms of ability, he does not figure to be a top pro back. Nevertheless, Cloud should not have been the most impressive back in the Senior Bowl, but he was. So he could overachieve in the NFL.
