Derrick Ransom, DL
(6-3 ½, 287, 5.18) | Cincinnati
Drafted by: Kansas City, Pick 28, Round 6 , Overall 181

Notes: Four-year starter. Played defensive tackle from 1994 to '96 and defensive end as a senior. Started eight times as a true freshman in '94 and had 30 tackles and a sack. Started 9-of-11 games in '95 and was in on 21 stops, two sacks and four tackles for loss. Started every game in '96 and ended the year with 63 tackles, 11 tackles for loss and six sacks. Started every game in '97, despite pulling a quadriceps muscle in the opener, and finished the regular season with 47 tackles, 10 tackles for loss and six sacks.

Positives: Has four years of starting experience at both end and tackle. Has very long arms and big, strong hands. Flashes the ability to control blockers and to stack at the point of attack. Can come off blocks and find the ball. Has some pass-rush quickness. Can spin and penetrate inside. Lost weight and got into much better shape for the Senior Bowl.

Negatives: Had a disappointing senior season. Did things to make you question his intensity level, stamina and endurance. Wore down too quickly when he tried to play at 290 pounds and took way too many downs off. Inconsistent in almost all the things he did. May not have the quick burst or closing speed you look for in a defensive right end. Gets handled inside when he plays too upright. Gets lazy and plays too upright vs. the run.

Summary: Could make it if he controls his weight, improves his stamina and endurance, plays lower and plays with more consistent intensity.
