Greg Favors, LB
(6-1 ½, 230, 4.8) | Mississippi State
Drafted by: Kansas City, Pick 28, Round 4, Overall 120

Notes: Played quarterback in high school and also was an excellent basketball player. Came to Mississippi State in 1993 and redshirted while moving from QB to defensive back. Saw most of his action on special teams in '94. Moved from strong safety to outside linebacker. Played in 11 games, including nine starts, in '95. Ended the year with 50 tackles but did not have a sack or an interception. Used as a rush backer in 1996 and '97. Had 101 tackles and 12 1/2 sacks, including 4 1/2 vs. Mississippi, in '96. Was slowed by a sprained medial collateral ligament suffered in the Georgia game in '97. Ended the year with 62 tackles, seven sacks, four other tackles for loss and an interception.

Positives: Good athlete. Plays a lot faster than he timed at the combine. Hard hitter for his size. Plays with knee bend. Has quick hands and a quick upfield surge on the pass rush. Can double back. Chases and pursues. Covers a lot of ground.

Negatives: Was used more like a pass-rushing defensive end than an outside backer in school and is small for an OLB. Lacks size. Gets hooked by the tight end. Has a hard time getting off blocks. Has limited experience playing in space. Gained a little weight and strength for the combine but ran disappointing times.

Summary: Reminds me a little of William Thomas of the Eagles when he came out of Texas A&M but is not as smooth and fluid an athlete or as productive a player. This player should be retimed before the draft because, like Thomas, he is faster than his first official 40-clocking would indicate.
