Kevin Lockett, WR
(5-11 7/8, 171, 4.57) | Kansas State
Drafted by: Kansas City, Pick 17, Round 2 , Overall 47

Notes: Redshirted in 1992. Started in '93 and caught 50 passes for 770 yards and four touchdowns. Had 39-583-3 in '94. Improved to 56-797-13 in '95 and to 72-882-6 in '96. Second-team All-Big Eight in '93 and '94, first-team All-Big Eight in '95 and All-Big 12 in '96. Accounting major who won academic honors and graduated before the '96 season.

Positives: Smooth, fluid athlete who catches the ball exceptionally well. Graceful, fluid receiver with deceptive speed and a knack for getting open. Tremendous lateral quickness and niftiness. Almost equally quick in all directions. Knows how to work a defensive back. Balanced in pass routes. Has quick feet and very soft hands. Reads coverages well. Does a nice job of adjusting to the ball. Will make the acrobatic, one-handed catches. Can throw the option pass. Has been productive and durable for four years. Seems to know the game well.

Negatives: Looks to be on the frail side. Lacks body mass and will get knocked around at times. May have some problems with the bump-and-run, unless he is lined up in the slot. Does not have blazing speed.

Summary: Smart, productive and very skillful player who is not as big, strong or speedy as you would like but still is a very good receiver in the Webster Slaughter mold.
