Kansas City Chiefs News and Signings
- 9/3/2000 There's not much that I can really say about the season
opening loss to the Colts. Sylvester Morris looked good, Frank Moreau
looke good, although in very limited action. Elvis Grbac had a so-so
game. In his defense he had a lot of dropped passes, but inexcusable
were the poor decision that led to the INT Tyrone Poole returned for
a TD and overthrowing a wide open Kevin Lockett in the end zone that
would have cut the defecit to 6. While Elvis did make those mistakes,
he had somewhere between 8-10 balls dropped, including a perfectly thrown
TD pass to Derrick Alexander that would have cut the defecit to 6. I
hate to say it, but the Colts were just better than the Chiefs today.
So, it's off to Tennessee next week, lets hope Elvis can survive the
pressure of the Titans front four, especially Jevon Kearse. And BTW,
Sylvester Morris should be starting.

8/29/2000 - FB/punisher Tony Richardson has been named the starting halfback for the season opener against Indy. Now the starting backfield will consist of Richardson at halfback, and Donnell Bennet at fullback. Thats
a pretty big and powerful backfield, sounds like extreme maul ball to me. But I like the thought. Mike Cloud will be the primary backup halfback. And I don't even need to mention how "young" the Chiefs will be this year...
There's gonna be quite a few rookies and 2nd year players contributing to this year, that could be good, but it leaves a lot of room for "rookie mistakes"...
-
8/28/2000 - Warning: Just my Opinion. Looking at the Chiefs roster, there are 3 recently released players, and 1 special player I believe the Chiefs should consider bringing in.
- WR/KR Charlie Jones, San Diego. Jones may be the kick returner and 5th receiver the Chiefs need.
- RB Raymont Harris, New England. He could be a workhorse...
- RB John Avery, Denver. This guy was supposed to have great potential, maybe not a Terrell davis or Olandis Gary, but he could be a good pickup
- DE Neil Smith, Denver. Now I realize Neil's skills have noticably declined, but a veteran leader, and a good reminder of DT couldn't hurt...
-
8/27/2000 - NFL cut down day turned out to be interesting. The Chiefs released last years
starting cornerback, Chris Dishman. Third year CB Eric Warfield will take his place in the starting lineup.
Dishman was picked up almost immediately by the Minnesota Vikings and will most likely start at left corner.
Other notable cuts included RB Rashaan Shehee, C Jeff Smith, TE Mitch Jacoby, WR/KR Kirby Dar Dar, and QB Ted White.
-
8/24/2000 - Andre Rison has signed with the Oakland Raiders.
-
8/18/2000 - Rookie WR Sylvester Morris will start at WR in
Saturday's home game against Jacksonville. Morris gets the start after
the release of Andre Rison and a foot injury to Kevin Lockett.
- 8/16/2000 - G Brendan Stai was traded to the Jacksonville Jaguars
for an undisclosed future draft pick. Stai will probably end up starting
for Jacksonville, while he may not have even made the 52 man roster
of the Chiefs.
- 8/14/2000 - WR Andre Rison was released from the team. Rison
spent 3 seasons with the club, having a Pro Bowl season in 97 followed
by 2 injury plagued seasons in 98 and 99. Rison currently considers
the Raiders as his best prospect for the upcomng season
- 8/9/2000 - The Chiefs finally agreed to terms with their 1st
round draft pick Sylvester
Morris with all of 3 days of training camp remaing. Coach Cunningham
has stated that Morris will see action Sunday night against the SF 49ers.
- 8/5/2000 The Chiefs reached a one year agreement with all-pro
Gaurd Will Shields
- 8/5/2000 Although the Chiefs lost 14-10 to the Titans in their
first preseason game, there were some bright spots. QB Elvis Grbac,
on his only drive of the night, went 8-9 for 71 yards and a TD, an impressive
TD at that. He split defenders to connect with "Touchdown"
Tony Gonzalez while staring down a major pass rush from Jevon Kearse
